| The island, which belongs to Africa with reference to geography and to Europe politically, is within a stone's throw of the African coast, extending at only about 150 km distance, between the 27th and 29th degree of latitude. Gomera stretches over about 373 km2 and therefore is the smallest but one of the seven main islands of the Canaray archipelago. Due to its pleasant climate, Gomera is especially popular with Northern European visitors. Average temperatures of 22 °C in winter and 27 °C in summer give rise to feelings of eternal spring. | During the 1970s, Gomera was regarded as an "island of hippies", a picture which meanwhile has changed. Most of the big tour operators offer trips to La Gomera. In spite of this fact the island is still being depicted as an alternative destination. The reason may be seen in the fact that there are hardly any beaches to be found on La Gomera, and therefore mass tourism has failed to come up to now. |

| For most tourists the reason to come to La Gomera is the breathtaking nature. Wild and fractured landscapes have imprinted the island's picture. The central mountain massif of the Garajonay measures 1487 m at its highest peak. | Magnificent gorges (barrancos) run through the whole island from here, reaching down to the sea. Moist and evergreen laurel forests, tropic valleys with plantations of bananas and citrus fruits, dry landscapes of rocks with thousands of cacti add up to form a unique vegetation! |

| Tourism on La Gomera has grown into an important economic factor. Many of the 18,000 inhabitants make their living directly or indirectly off the tourism. Infrastructure for tourism is most developed in Valle Gran Rey and Playa Santiago. On the southern and western side of the island, which are sure to receive a lot of sun, one can find some of the little black volcano beaches. | During the last years many new hotels and apartment complexes were constructed here. In the more humid northern part with its communities Vallehermoso and Hermigua the "turismo rural" (tourism in a country house or the rural finca) has developed stronger. We offer accommodation in all parts of the island. You find our supply on the menu item accommodation |
