Playa de Santiago, situated in the dry South of La Gomera, is the place on the island where the chances for sunshine are highest. With a view to tourism, the small fishers' village has developed much during the last years. The airport of the island is close at hand and the surroundings of Santiago are often being chosen for the erection of first class hotels.	The beach at the harbour (stone and pebbles) is protected from the sea by a mole and therefore suited for bathing. Right next to the 4 star complex Tecina Club the first and only gulf course of the island is being laid-out. In spite of this, Playa de Santiago has kept some of its tranquil charms. Due to the fact the Santiago doesn't offer sand beaches, the huge tourist masses have as yet stayed out of its way, even though the express ferry Benchi Exprés now offers a direct ship connection to San Sebastian and Valle Gran Rey.
